In my post of June 2nd, I said that my next post would not be until June 24th. The time in-between was to be filled with family time and events. Aren't you curioous to know what all we did? Well, even if you aren't curious, I am going to review some of the things we did in the hope that it might encourage you to take time for the blessings that come from God through family and friends.
Two days after that June 2nd post, my wife and I attended the wedding of our Colorado granddaughter. Not that I am biased, but she was a very beautiful bride. The words many say are true of her - she is beautiful inside and out. As grandparents, our main role was to be present, encourage the young couple, meet some of the guests, enjoy the reception, and then to remember the depth of the commitment that is made by a bride and groom to each other in their vows. Mary and I will be recalling our own commitments made 56 years ago later this summer.
Three days of driving followed the wedding and our packing as we made our way from Colorado through New Mexico and finally to San Antonio, Texas. There we were able to visit with our son and his family. We were able to see our 16 year old grandson's baseball game for the first time since he was in Little League. Then we witnessed our Texas granddaughter's graduation from high school. This fall she will be a freshman at Texas Tech in Lubbock. We are very proud of our son, his wife, and our two Texas grandchildren.
From there it was up I-35 to Denton where we lived before our move to Colorado. We were able to have meals with and visit with two of the teachers my wife taught with for many years. They had gotten together once a month for over 30 years for a meal before our move. We also enjoyed a meal and visit with two of my co-workers and forever friends with whom I also share a 25 plus year history.
The final leg of the trip was back through Texas, New Mexico, and to our Colorado home. Well, final was not the correct word. I am sure it has nothing to do with our age but this past week has been spent in what we labeled as trip recovery. Who would have guessed that we had accumulated so many dirty clothes and lost so many hours of our normal sleep pattern! Any misspellings, grammatical errors, and other mistakes in this posting, I blame on incomplete trip recovery.
Now, I know you are probably not intrigued by the details of our trip. However, I shared these with you for a couple of reasons. One, I wanted you to know that we had a good time on our trip. Second, If you need encouragement, I want to encourage each of you to take time to be with family and stay in touch with friends old and new. Many things that we believe will bring us joy and happiness are very temporary. But the memories of times past and the reality of times present with family and friends are lasting blessings that God gives us. Jesus spent time with family and friends, as well as His disciples. Following His example is an excellent way to live our lives.
I hope you have some time with those that are close to you this week.
